| In order to encourage sustained scientific and technological development within
San Luis Potosi, the state government promoted the creation of a research institute
devoted to multi- and interdisciplinary investigation of strategic issues critical
to regional development.
The Potosi Institute of Scientific and Technological Research
(IPICYT), founded on 24 November 2000, is a public research institute within the
CONACYT system, representing an important effort towards the decentralization of
scientific and technological activities in Mexico.
The high quality research groups of IPICYT generate knowledge
at the cutting edge of science and technology, develop human resources through
the training of graduate and postgraduate students, and interact with diverse
sectors of society to support the consolidation of San Luis Potosi
in the 21st Century.
