With the purpose of definitely encouraging scientific activity in San Luis Potosi, the State Government promoted the creation of a multi and interdisciplinary research institute dedicated to to the study of strategic problems for the development of the region.

The Scientific and Technological Research Institute was founded November 24, 2000. It is currently a CONACYT Public Center for research. The government thus meets one of the most important commitments of the 1998-2003 State Development Plan regarding science and technology and lays the groundwork for consolidating a truly 21rst Century San Luis Potosi.

IPICYT represents an important effort toward decentralizing scientific and technological activities.

The Potosino Institute for Scientific and Technological Research offers the possibility of nuclear groups for high quality research, which aside from generating frontier knowledge, will form human resources at the undergraduate and graduate level.
