Growth and consolidation in the course of the year 2003 are the objectives of the Department of Applied Mathematics:

Growth in view of extending the employment of highly qualified academic personnel and implementing the infrastructure for scientific research. Consolidation in view of the importance of internal and interdisciplinary research projects, as well as the installation of the Master of Science and Doctor of Science Graduate Program in Applied Sciences.

The strategic programs for the growth and consolidation of the department are:

  1. Engagement and support of academic personnel
In the course of 2002/03 the engagement of nine research professors and four academic technicians is programmed.
  2. Master of Science and Doctor of Science Graduate Program in Applied Sciences with the option of Computational Systems. This program initiates the Graduate Program approved by SEP and included in the Graduation Program Register of CONACYT.
  3. Furthermore, it is of importance to assure the continuous acquisition of scientific journals and bibliographies to meet the requirements of researchers and students.
  4. Program for promotion of interdisciplinary research projects
This program improves the multidisciplinary approach to different disciplines and researchers in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computational Systems, by means of discussions about the state-of-the-art research areas and thus to find common scientific projects. This is realized by seminars and round table discussion with the participation of Graduate students.
  5. Development of the laboratories infrastructure
This program supports the establishment of three research laboratories in the department:

        • Laboratory for electromagnetic and electronic systems
        • Laboratory for reaction and transfer systems, and
        • Laboratory for geographical information systems.
