Department of Graduate Studies

The Department of Graduate Studies is a key player in the academic and administrative operations and control of the institutional graduate programs. This Department is a member of the Graduate Studies Academic Board, and within the organizational framework it oversees program admissions and is the liaison to outside organisms such as the Secretary of Public Education’s Administrative Office for Professions and the CONACYT. Its tasks range from guidance to prospective graduate students, academic records control, dissertation defense meetings, issuance of degrees and professional I.D. cards, to follow-up of alumni.

The following comprise the Collegiate Bodies for the coordination and operation of the Institutional Graduate Programs:

  • The Graduate Academic Board. This committee addresses and resolves operational issues within the graduate department and adopts resolutions under board and institutional consensus on all graduate program and student affairs. The resolutions to be made at the senior leadership level are presented to the Academic Board through the Academic Secretary. This Board is comprised of the Graduate Program Coordinators, two student-elected representatives, and the Head of the Graduate Department, and is chaired by the Academic Secretary.

  • The Scholarship Committee. The Scholarship Committee’s purpose is to evaluate student and Coordinator applications for scholarships and special aid through an institutional fund. It is made up of five faculty researchers, one for each Graduate Program, an administrative representative, and a National Supercomputing Center representative, and is chaired by the Academic Secretary.
